My objective for this week is to get to know the residents on the floor and formulate a group for people with Traumatic Brain Injuries(TBI’s), along with the help of my mentor.
My outcome this week is that I did get to know 3 of the residents with a TBI, each with their own responses to the brain injury. One of the residents forgets in about 5 minutes of what was just discussed and another reacts with anger about the whole situation but forgetting what had happened. The third resident has trouble formulating words due to an accident with a horse stepping and or hitting his head.
My evaluation of these residents is that the educational process is going to be a long road with the possibility of not recovering from their TBI. The group therapy or education will have to be changed according to the residents’ mood or situation for that day.
