Thematic Apperception Test
The Thematic Apperception Test is a common projective test and it was developed by Henry Murray in 1938. During this test, the subject is shown pictures and asked to tell a story about the picture that has a beginning, middle, and end. This test is used to aid a counselor in getting a better idea of a client’s needs, emotions, and conflicts that they may be experiencing in their lives (Neukrug & Fawcett, 2015). I have taken this test and below I will discuss my results and how this could affect my counselor identity.

Reflection
When I was taking the TAT I decided to base my story in the early 1900s. My main character was Margret and she had decided to go to school despite the negative opinions that she had received from her family. In my story, Margret had gone against her mother’s will and attended Harvard to get her degree in Medical Sciences. She had finished at the top of her class and was able to speak at graduation where she saw her family in the crowd supporting her. From here she went on to open up her own medical office and be successful.
Utpsyc notes that when testing your own writing to take the results lightly but there are a few things that I would disagree with when looking at my results. The first aspect of my results
that I would argue against is the need for achievement being lower than average. I feel that throughout my whole story I spoke immensely about Margret needing to achieve high things. I had talked about her getting her Ph.D., owning her own business, and being at the top of her class. This reflects how I am as a person as well, I have always strived to do well in school and oftentimes I am very hard on myself when I should be proud of my achievements......... continue
