MATH 399N Week 3 Discussion: Probability and Odds

Professor and Class,

Classical probability is used when each outcome in a sample space is equally likely to occur. The classical probability for an event E is given by P(E) = the number of outcome in an event E / total number of outcome in a sample space.

(1)  Find the probability of each even from rolling a 12-sided die

    (a)  Event:  rolling a 2      (b)  Event:  rolling a number greater than 4     (c) Event:  rolling a number divisible by 5

Event A – Rolling a 2.  A = 2 so P = 0.83

Event B – Rolling a number > 4 . B = 12  so P = 0.667

Event C – Rolling a number divisible by 5. C = 4 so P = 0.333variable
